These laps are made from the mulberry silk cocoon directly into the sheet form, cut, hand-dyed, and then prepared for shipping. They can be stretched out until they are gossamer thin and used as a layer in felting, paper making, or drafted out for spinning a textured yarn. Less than perfectly shaped cocoons are used to make 'laps.' The degummed cocoons are carded on a large carding machine to make large 'batts' approximately.
